New Years Resolutions 2012

Yay!!  I wait all year to write this post.  I LOVE New Years Resolutions.

Don’t roll your eyes at me.  I see you!

Ok, I feel like I’ve done a little overkill on the whole resolution thing.  I’ve talked about my New Year’s Resolutions twice already and I haven’t even had this site for a year yet.  So I shouldn’t ever talked about it even one time.  Back in June I did a mid-year check in and then in November I encouraged you to start thinking about your resolutions for 2012.

Well, I hope you took me up on my encouragement because it’s time to set those goals!

But first let’s see how I did on last year’s goals.

Read 25 books:  Done in the nick of time!  If it hadn’t been for this goal I wouldn’t have read as many books as I did.  It was a comfortable goal and I’d like to keep up this amount of book reading.  One change I would like to make is to read a little more fiction.  I read 8 fiction books and the rest were non-fiction.  I’d like to get it to about half and half.

Pay off all non-mortgage debt:  I’m going to say done, except we will be doing the actual writing of the check in January.  But we did all the saving this year so it’s because of the work we did in 2011 that is going to make it possible.  So check?  I’m sure I’ll an article about it when it actually happens.

Paint the living room:  Done way back in January.  Easy one.

Ok, well I’m going to say success all around.  Which is very satisfying!  I want this feeling for you.  Setting and meeting goals makes you feel powerful, like nothing can stop you.  I know my goals weren’t exactly earth shattering but it doesn’t matter.  It’s still nice to set out to do something and actually do it!

New Years Resolutions for 2012

As I said back in November I like to set three goals each year.  One about finance, one about personal development, and one for something I’ve been putting off for too long.  I have to admit, I struggled to narrow it down to three.

Make $25,000 without getting a job:  I know that’s not a ton of money but it’s critical.  If I can’t meet this income goal then I will start looking for an actual job come 2013.  My kids are getting older and I don’t need to be home all day anymore.  It’s time that I start significantly contributing financially to the family.  Play time is over!

Paint the Family Room:  I hate to have another painting goal but I painted the living room 6 years ago and have hated it ever since.  6 years!  I just don’t have anything else I’ve been putting off for that long.

Read 6 books, 3 about sales/ marketing and 3 about leadership:  These are two topics that I feel I have a lot to learn.  Plus it might help me with goal #1; making more money.   I’d love your suggestions for which books I should read.

Ok, I want to hear your New Year’s Resolutions!

You are doing pretty well Ashley! I like the fact you’ve kept your goals at a manageable level. Congrats on completing your 2011 goals and best wishes for next years goals!

I just saw a post about the start of http://grandpermonth.com/ — maybe that could help you with your $25k goal. If you’re working on blog stuff 15 hours a week and making half your target income with it, it gives you space for another gig as well. (I’m working 40 hours in the office and taking a full load of graduate courses, so my blog is just getting started. It’s not a moneymaker… yet?)

Ashley, you will blow those blog income goals out of the water. Have a happy and successful 2012!

[...] I set up three goals last year and met all three. I read 25 books, paid off all non-mortgage debt, and painted the living room. I know those aren’t big crazy goals, but that’s what I chose. Well, paying off the non-mortgage debt was a big deal. You can read more about my New Year’s Resolutions here. [...]

Super job, Ashley! I have no doubt you will accomplish your new goals too.

Check out Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki – it’s kind of like a modern Carnegie, so I’ve been told. I’ve only just started it since Christmas

LOVE the goals and kudos on a successful 2012! So glad we’re in the $30k challenge, I’m nervous as heck about it!

As for books- here’s what I recommend:
Uncertainty by Jonathan Fields
Millionaire Messenger by Brendon Burchard (if you’re thinking of developing more personal stuff or want to learn how to use your experience/story to educate others)

…really anything by Seth Godin or take a listen to Copyblogger or Smart Passive Income on iTunes if you don’t already! :)

So excited for you- if you ever need anything to help you with your goals, I’m here for you!
