Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University Review
I just finished Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. If you aren’t familiar with the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University classes it is a 13 week program. You meet once per week for 2 hours. The format of the class is to watch an hour long video of a Dave Ramsey presentation. After the class there is a group discussion. We had about 5 couples which makes the classes more interesting. You get a chance to ask questions and hear about other people’s experiences. I thought that was fun.
It basically takes you through Dave’s Babysteps; starting with saving your baby emergency fund, budgeting, paying off debt, saving for college and retirement, and building wealth and giving. He fills in the baby steps with information about credit, shopping for bargains, insurance, investing, growing your income, and real estate.
The class cost me just under $100 and I would say it is worth that smallish investment, especially if you are just getting started in getting control of your money. You will learn skills that will more than pay you back for the $100.
The changes that I’m looking to make after taking the classes are in my retirement allocations and also in my giving. I recently wrote about my take on charities and I have an article coming up about my feelings about giving in general. This is definitely an area where I have room to grow. Also I’m thinking about taking Dave’s suggestions about asset allocation. I really didn’t have a plan for my asset allocation, so again, I have room for improvement in this area.

Thanks for your honest look at FPU. So many people can’t look past the fact that it is being held in a church and think it is all about religion and giving to the church. I’m glad you looked past it and saw what it really is, a class that teaches everyday Americans how to handle their money responsibly for the good of their family and future.
